How is the President Elected?
The president is elected through a political process called the electoral college. He is chosen by the majority of the members in the electoral college. The electors in the electoral college are chosen by the people of the United States. The chosen electors then vote for a president. Although one candidate may get more votes than the other, the electoral college may vote otherwise.
The Requirements to Run and Become President
- Must have lived in the United States for at least 14 years
- Must be born in the United States
- Only a United States citizen can be president
- Must be at least 35 years old
Many people think that the electoral college is a ridiculous process and that "We The People" should vote for a candidate and one should win by percentage. Others think, "Why change it? It has been working all these years. Don't fix something if it's not broken." What do you think?
